Being bad

Being Bad has been an exciting modual, we have covered subjects from bandits, which are bad, up to masturbation, which, unfortunatly for men, used to be seen as a very bad sin which could lead to all sorts of contrations and procedures to stop them participating.

A website on religion and masturbation;

Being bad has opened my eyes and mind to subjects which are bad, but which other people my not see as bad, such as alcohol consumtion, but as we all know, whether or not people take notice of the statistics is up to them, i think it is safe to say that during weekends, people do choose to ignore doctors, and scientists.

terror

A Mumbai terrorist has been sentenced to death after going on a rampage that killed 166 pople.

In mumbia, India, the death penalty is still hanging.

however, the executioner dies in 2004, as executions are so rear no-one has applied to replace him.

there are a total of 52 people on death row in india.

here is the article, read it and let me know your views.

Gangs

Ten teenagers have been murdered in London this year.

Nicholas Paerton was stabbed and beaten up by ten attackers on wednesday night. The gang were armed with knives, bats and sticks. Nicholas staggered to a fast food shop, where his mum comforted him, before the paramedics arrived. He later died in hospital.

Seven males aged between fourteen and twenty-one have been arrested.

I personally think gangs are bad, being in a gang can create 'labels'. So as gangs are labeled by the media, which has a huge affect on people's opinions, as being 'bad', 'wrong' and 'dangerous', people will act like this as they belive they are meant to.

here are some more statistics on teenage gangs and gang related deaths;

Alcohol

The "hair of the dog" may cure a hangover but it can also increase a person's dependency on alcohol. University of Southampton researchers found that withdrawal symptoms when consumption stops "could be relieved by small doses of alcohol".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/8662985.stm

Notable recent statistics also include the number of younger teenagers using drink or drugs. Last year one in seven people admitted to Accident and Emergency departments across the UK for alcohol related health issues were under 14 years old - a total of over 2239 cases.
http://www.drug-aware.com/alcohol-information.htm

Alcohol-related deaths in the United Kingdom has increased, rising from 4,023 (6.7 per 100,000) in 1992 to the highest of 9,031 (13.6 per 100,000) in 2008.

Terrorism and ignorance

‘The UKIP candidate for Norwich North has called for the blowing up of Iran before it acquires nuclear weapons and has described Afghans as "backward".’

This is just basic ignorance; the candidate says that ‘we need to act first as a protection of national security’ but, do they actually have proof that Iran has nuclear weapons, as the quote from the man clearly states, BEFORE Iran acquires nuclear weapons. This is just plain ignorance.

A Pakistan-born US citizen has been charged with terrorism over the failed car-bomb attack in New York's Times Square on Saturday.

On the 1st may, a Pakistani man was arrested at JFK airport, he admitted parking a car full of explosives.

Child abuse

Whilst messing about with my boyfriend, each trying to find the most shocking story. I came across a story that made us both feel physically sick.

The world’s youngest mother was a five year old Peruvian girl called, Lina Medina in 1939.
According to http://www.snopes.com/pregnant/medina.asp , her parents took her to the hospital after Lina had developed a large, swelling abdomen, the doctor then found out that the little girl was 7 months pregnant. Unfortunately due to Lina’s young age, she could not identify who the father of her child was.

alcohol

Our lecture was on alcohol and the statistics.

what i found most interesting in the lecture was that whilst the stats pointed out that the amount being drunk by people, the consumtion of alsohol has risen, but the statistics of children that NOT consuming alcohol has risen.

I happen to be tee-total. what i don't get, is why people drink so exessively they cause damage to themselves and more than likely end up causing violent disorder? which you can get arrested for quite easily. from this webpage http://www.bbc.co.uk/switch/surgery/advice/drink_drugs/alcohol_booze/

it states that drinking to much causes horrible side effects, so it still baffals me.

another website http://www.isdscotland.org/isd/6137.html, shows some of the bad statistics of alcohol.

some things . . .

Whilst this is not a subject we have covered, nor is it really linked with being bad.

But having just heard something which shocked me, Belgium has/is looking into banning women wearing the ‘veil’ as it hinders intergration.

If this law is passed then they would be violating articles 1, 5, partly 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, and partly 16 of the European convention of human rights. http://www.hri.org/docs/ECHR50.html

As stated in http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8636451.stm the woman said it is her choice, hers, of whether she’s wears a veil.

Who gives them the right to make laws like this! This would ban freedom of expression (article 10) it would also highly violate article 9, the freedom of thought and religion.

And also, what makes our society right?

You hear people say, if ‘their coming over here taking our jobs, the least they can do is learning the language and rules’ . . . . And these are the same people going on holidays abroad, acting ignorant and obnoxious. From some of the Britain’s going abroad, I’m surprised anybody from other countries wants to visit at all.

Lying with integretity

Ok, so this isn’t exactly lying with integrity or being bad, but

The recent news of the volcano that went off in ice-land, meaning that all planes in European were cancelled.

There has been a lot of discussion as to the ban on flights for 6 days, leaving thousands of people stranded.

There has been a discussions as to WHY exactly people lifted the flight ban, because they found out flying was actually safe? (if so there are a lot of annoyed people) Or because the flight companies were getting on at them? (maybe they gave them money)

Anyway, we will probably never know, but what are your reasons?

Body Modification

Unfortunately I couldn’t get to last week’s lecture of tattoo’s and body modification, a subject which I am interested in as I have tattoo’s.

Upon reading the lecture posted on WOLF I came across a point that made me think, ‘Religious Most major religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Confucianism) have been against body modification at one part of their existence. As the body is created by God it is an attack on him to change it from its natural state and thus is deviant.’

This contradicted with another point, ‘Religious Reasons Modification occurring as an integral part of a religious ceremony, all major religions have or have had body modification as an integral part either sanctioned or unofficially.’
Such as Judaism, they believe in circumcisions, but surely, if god created us in his own image, this body modification is unjust?

ifidelity

Cheating, betraying someone, is always seen as bad, and it is wrong to do. In my view, if you are going to cheat on someone, or fancy another person, you shouldn’t go out with anyone, what is the point in hurting someone any causing you hassle and getting a bad reputation?

Also, infidelity can cause bad reactions http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/8605990.stm

Smoking

The media have been discussing banning smoking around children altogether; this would mean banning people from smoking in their own vehicles. As high a figure as 300,000 extra child visits to the doctors occur every year as a result of passive smoking. Out of this figure, there are 20,000 chest infections, 22,000 get diagnosed with asthma, 200 have bacterial meningitis and 40 cases of sudden infant death syndrome.

What do people think about this?

Alcohol

The effects of alcohol are ‘widely’ known. Well there supposed to be, things such as liver damage, kidney failure, brain damage, heart damage, these illnesses, alcohol poisoning are less known, his is mainly due to the fact that you cannot see them with the naked eye, however, damages due to fighting when drunk, people falling over, it costs the NHS £3 billion every year to treat alcohol related injuries and treatments. So what do people think about the new tax that will go on cider or the proposed order of charging people £500 for alcohol related accidents. I for one am in favour and would like this to pass, as it would make people think more, and for those who drink alcohol responsibly or, like me, who are tee-total, I do not particularly favour the idea for paying through taxes for somebody being stupid and ruining their own lives.

Bandits http://www.tsgraves.com/images/posters/jesseJames_northfieldBank.jpg

I didn’t really know what to expect from this lecture, but coming from Nottinghamshire, I had a feeling that Robin Hood would get mentioned :P

Talking about bandits and outlaws, I’m annoyed at being charged for something I didn’t do yet again by my accommodation. I’m being fleeced for my innocent money, to pay for stupid fools who shouldn’t be in uni with this behaviour. Just put a balaclava on them on give them a gun.

meow meow http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2747979/Meow-meow-drug-teen-ripped-his-scrotum-off.html#ixzz0iY6hmpCQ

What does everybody think of this new ‘legal high’ ‘Meow meow’?

Durham Police are warning that its use can result in severe nose bleeds, nose burns, hallucinations, blood circulation problems, rashes, anxiety and paranoia, fits, delusions and can lead to a heart attack.
The sun also reported that one of the lads also ripped of his own scrotum (owww)
It has now been banned in Sweden, as well as Israel, Norway and Finland.

Drugs

Last week’s lecture on drugs was interesting. Coming from a tee total, it was amazing how hardly anybody thought as alcohol as a drug. We learnt about hallucinogens mainly, it was interesting to know that most hallucinogens were created chemically by man. http://www.talktofrank.com/

Banned

I was interested in last weeks lecture on the things that have been banded in the UK. There was everything from adverts to art, the banning of guns and some games I can agree with. Some of the adverts where a bit strange when you thought about them, or heard people’s opinions.

what are your opinions?

Masturbation

I think everyone went to the lecture without a clue (other than the subject) what the lecture would be like. We found out the history of masturbation and why, even now, it is still a subject that does not get mentioned. Some of the methods they used to ‘stop’ or ‘cure’ masturbation made me cringe. And whilst masturbation is not seen as a sin anymore (this makes lads happy i’m sure), it is still seen as a dirty act.
What’s everyone’s views on this?

i'm so p**sed off right now

I am being threated with being charged yet again for other peoples childish, idiotic behaviour!!!

is this letter to harsh though??

(bit tough if it is i've all ready sent it)

Dear Sir/Madame,

I have just received your e-mail about the malicious damage caused to the door in RWP block.

I am really getting annoyed at people now. I know people are students, but do I do not see why they are so intent on causing damage that they know other students will get charged with. I often here people running, screaming, smashing bottles or glasses, or throwing eggs at windows at all hours of the night, on Saturday the 27th of February somebody was shouting obscenities at three o’clock in the morning and telling everybody to ‘Get up’, this was shortly followed by a fire alarm.

I am a first year student, already I have been charged for a kitchen flood that happened in October, I was away for the weekend as I was ill so I went home, as I was and am a new student I wasn’t sure where to hand my keys into, so stupidly I didn’t. As a result of someone’s idiotic behaviour, I have been charged £25, I couldn’t appeal against the charge as I had no proof I’d been away.

On the 19th of November the RWP block door got damaged, on the 24th of February the fire alarm got set off in RWP block, again I had been away at home, I’d only been back a couple of hours when the fire alarm got set off, whilst I did not see anybody specifically do it, I did hear somebody run in, laugh and run back outside, slamming the door.
I am getting sick of being charged, or threatened with being charged for things in which I have no part in.

The kitchen in RWP block 101-112 is a state, people are not cleaning up after themselves, if they did, and when it comes to kitchen inspections it wouldn’t take as much effort! However this week’s inspection we failed on and got threatened with a £15 charge each! I have been ill so I haven’t been using the kitchen. I am getting sick of cleaning it; there is only me and one other person that does any cleaning.

I will be glad when this year is over and I can move out of Gorway Halls of residence and move away from childish people and then I can keep my deposit together!

Tia Ford
(a very annoyed student)

Annoyance

Why is it that where ever I sit in the theatre I always sit near a group of people who keep talking!! I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t as constant or something to do with the lecture, but it seems to be an excuse to have a conversation about anything or rattling plastic bags. It’s really starting to annoy me, especially as the lecturer mentioned it.

Expectation....

I don’t know what to expect from todays lecture on masturbation.
I know there’s a vedio as it’s on wolf. I just hope there are any stupid people who’ll act about 10 and laugh or make stupid comments.
It’s uni. We’re mean to be mature, or mature-ish now at least.

Lying

I think lying depends on how, where and for what purpose a lie is told.
For instance, telling children that Santa or the tooth fairy is real, however this is a blatent lie that could upset children if they found out to young. However many parents/gaurdians do.
However lying in your own favour, or to get something is wrong.

What are you views??

Prostition, Stalking, Shoplifting

Did people have fun learning about Prostiution, Shoplifting and Stalking by watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Family Guy and Peep Show??
I think we all did, as there was a lot of singing the theme tunes to Family Guy.
What did we all learn then??
I learnt that Shoplifting is addictive, Stalking can be done for what is seen as ‘good’ reasons, and Prostitution is based on what people think.
Your views and opinions

week 12

any suggestions on where to go?
