Alcohol


The "hair of the dog" may cure a hangover but it can also increase a person's dependency on alcohol. University of Southampton researchers found that withdrawal symptoms when consumption stops "could be relieved by small doses of alcohol".

Notable recent statistics also include the number of younger teenagers using drink or drugs. Last year one in seven people admitted to Accident and Emergency departments across the UK for alcohol related health issues were under 14 years old - a total of over 2239 cases.

Alcohol-related deaths in the United Kingdom has increased, rising from 4,023 (6.7 per 100,000) in 1992 to the highest of 9,031 (13.6 per 100,000) in 2008.
